Through the summer the First Lutheran Church women will continue to meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at the church for Bible study and the Faith Circle will continue to meet on the fourth Friday of the month at The Meadows for Bible study, but please check the calendar each month for changes.  The summer is a time of vacations and other events that lead to a change of date.  The Eidsvold Lutheran Church women will meet on the third Thursday of the month.

The summer Bible study is on prayer and called "Pray Always" available at  Lutheran Woman Today as well as in the monthly print version of the magazine.  The three sessions are:

June  "Persistence"

July "Waiting with Patience and Hope"

August "Power"

The Eidsvold WELCA met Thursday, July 22, 2010, President Ruth Swenson presiding.  The Purpose Statement was read in unison.  Devotions given by Joydis Folland from Christ in our Home titled “Hospitality”. The Bible study was led by Pastor Halverson on Session 2, Waiting with Patience and Hope, based on Isaiah 40:28-31.

      Offering was taken and Table Grace was prayed. Lunch was served by Wanda Undeberg and she surprised us with a delicious 3 layer orange marmalade cake which is featured in “The Medford Series” and was the specialty of Esther Bolek for every special occasion. The books are excellent reading.

      The business meeting opened with the reading of the minutes by Sec. Darleen. The treasurer’s report was read by Alpha, showing a balance of $3,428.32.  Correspondence: Thank you from LWR. Summerthing was discussed and all is ready for July 25^th.  The 125^th anniversary is coming up next year so input is needed for the celebration.

      Mission Action: Much of the quilting is being done at home in preparation for assembling at church.  Mission Community: No cards were sent.

      The next meeting is August 19^th at 2:00. Devotions: Audella Stamnes; Lunch: Lela Spilde; Study Leader: Pastor.

      Meeting closed with the Lord’ Prayer.

The First Lutheran Church WELCA met for Bible study and their general meeting on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 7:30 pm. Bible study was led by Pastor Halverson. Lunch was served by Lola Germundson.

President Eldonna Grahn called the meeting to order. Secretary Lori Anderson read the minutes of the April 22, 2010 meeting. They were approved as read. Correspondence included a thank you note from Danielle Wollin for the quilt she received for graduation.

Treasurer’s Report: Loretta Bothum handed out copies of the treasurer’s report. Checking account balance as of June 30, 2010 $5,262.78 with $1,278.41 in a CD. The report was approved as presented.

Mission Action: Eleanor Dahlin reported that the school bags are out and ready to be filled. The health kits and layettes are completed.

Mission Community: No report

Old Business: Eldonna indicated that the cluster meeting went well and that there was a good turn out for it.

New Business: 1) October Supper and Bazaar – Discussion was held regarding the starting times for the supper as well as selling items at the bazaar. Motion by Emojean Anderson to begin selling items at 4:00 and begin the supper at 4:30 serving until 6:30. Seconded by Ruth Halverson. Motion carried. 2) The nominating committee consisting of Elaine Ruud, Margaret Donaldson, and Lori Anderson will prepare a slate of officers for the election in October. 3) Vacation Bible School – Discussion was held. Motion by Lola Germundson to pay Laurie Lofstrom $600. Seconded by Eleanor Dahlin. Motion carried. 4) Donations will be reviewed at the October general meeting. 5) Confirmation – still not sure of a date.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned. The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

In August the First Lutheran WLECA has 64 school bags, all sewn by Wionia Slaathaug and Bernice Germundson, for members to fill and return to church for distribution to needy children.  A list of what each school bag should have is with the bags.

The Eidsvold WELCA is again assembling health kits for Lutheran World Relief in response to the call for them because of the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile.  Here’s what’s in each one.

·        One hand towel, dark color recommended

·        One washcloth, dark color recommended

·        One bath-size bar (4 to 5 oz.) of soap, any brand, in its original wrapping

·        One adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging

·        One sturdy comb, remove packaging

·        One metal nail file or nail clippers with file attached, remove packaging (do not substitute cardboard emery boards for the file)

·        Six Band-Aids® (or similar brand), preferably 1/2" to 3/4"; secure together with a rubber band
