High School Graduates

On May 18 the parish will recognize the 2008 high school graduates by having them as special guests at the Sunday School program, with gifts from the WELCA and the youth board, and seats of honor at the dinner.  The members and friends of our parish who are graduating from high school this spring include

Baccalaureate

On May 25 a baccalaureate service will be held at the Tri-County School gym in Karlstad for the 2008 graduating class, their families and friends.  Pastor David Riveness of Resurrection Community Church and a graduate of Karlstad High School will be the speaker.  The Karlstad Area Ministerial Association organizes this service in cooperation with the senior class each year.  Graduation itself will be on June 1.


Affirmation of Baptism - Confirmation

Five 9th graders were confirmed by Pastor Gary Halverson on the Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 6, 2007 at First Lutheran Church after two years of instruction with the pastor and Sunday School teachers Jan Berg and Eldonna Grahn.  At a confirmation banquet on May 2 they read a personal statement of faith and recited their confirmation verse before  their families and leaders of the congregation.  An elegant meal featuring chicken Kiev was served by the FLC-WELCA.  The five confirmands are:

Katie Hanson, Danielle Wollin


Youth Board

The parish youth board consists of two youth who also a members of the church council.  They are Kayla Anderson ('07-'08) and Katie Hanson ('08-'09) as well as the adult advisors and any other youth who wish to be part of the board.  The two youth on the church council are elected at the annual meeting of the congregation.

Adult advisors on the youth board are Laurie Lofstrom and Gaylene Anderson.

All youth of First Lutheran Church are welcome to be members of the youth board.  All they have to do is attend any youth board meeting and indicate an interest in helping make decisions for the youth group.  Any adult who wishes to work with youth is welcome to come to any meeting and help out with events.
